My logins and passwords

Have you thought about what those closest to you will do to access your electronic accounts after you die?  Accessing password protected accounts can be difficult for your executors.

Some larger companies such as Facebook have a process prepared that allows your family and loved ones to decide what happens when you die.  You can also let Facebook know your preferences.  Not all companies have this though.

Please do NOT put your passwords onto your will. Your will becomes a public document when it goes through Probate. That means anyone will be able to see all of your passwords.  We also recommend you do not write your passwords down but you may wish to list all of the important accounts you hold on a Letter of Wishes so your executors know where to look.

You may wish to sign up to a digital password vault that securely stores your passwords.  These are available online.
