A “Legacy” is a specific gift to a beneficiary. This can be gifts of money, property, shares, insurance proceeds or some other item.
Historically, Legacies have been used to refer only to gifts of money. The word “Bequest” was used for other gifts. Over time the word “Bequest” has been used interchangeably with “Legacy”. In our wills we have followed this convention.
If you want to remember a charity in your will you can leave a fixed sum of money to that charity. Charity gifts are usually the largest single donation that anyone provides in their whole life and they can change the future of that charity.
